Damson Idris says he and Saweetie are just friends.

The actor appeared on the Breakfast Club, where he discussed the viral video he took of Saweetie playing piano in her home, leading some to believe they’re a couple and giving the hosts a perfect layup to grill him.

“No, no, me and that queen are just friends,” Idris said around the 21:15 minute mark in the video above. “She’s a great piano player. And I didn’t know she could play piano—I didn’t even think the world knew. So I was like, ‘Oh this is a cool moment.’”

When needled about how he ended up at Saweetie’s house to learn she could play piano in the first place, he responded, “She’s a huge Snowfall fan. That day we were at lunch, I think talking about how we could collaborate. … She wanted to show me her new place because I love CB2 and I was going to give her some ideas about furniture and art, and then boom, we went. She was playing the piano. That’s it. I was in there for like five minutes and I dipped out. She’s a friend of mine.”

When DJ Envy interrupted to ask if it was a date, Idris said, “No, it wasn’t a date. You know guys and girls can be friends. That’s exactly what me and [Saweetie], we’re friends.”

Idris posted the video of Saweetie in November to his Instagram Stories, showing the artist teaching Damson how to play piano while performing Beethoven’s “Für Elise.” They start laughing when she’s done.

Idris also commented on their relationship in a recent interview with GQ, with the magazine writing “she’s just a friend.” He’s now single after being in a nine-year relationship.
