Terry Crews Compares Hollywood to a Slave Plantation: 'They Shame You'

It's been about one week since Terry Crews' sexual assault case against Hollywood talent agent Adam Venit was thrown out, but he's still continuing his fight in the #MeToo movement.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Crews explained how volatile Hollywood can be—especially if you're accusing a man of sexual assault.

"People don’t understand that Hollywood is a very violent place,” he said. "The best way to put it is that it’s like a plantation. You use extreme violence. You see a lot of people who never work again. For even speaking up the whole thing is that they cut your head off so that the next person doesn’t speak."

Crews also spoke about having to still pay Venit.

"What business [is this] that you can do something like that to another human being, and I still have to pay you?” he said. "Everybody feels like that’s OK. But this is not right. There are no checks and balances. There is no one to watch you. And given what he did to me, imagine some young girl, and an agent rapes them, and they’re on a show or whatever, and they still got to pay this guy."

But Crews is continuing on with his career. He appears in the 2018 indie favorite, Sorry to Bother You, is continuing his role as Terry Jeffords in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and is slated to appear in Deadpool 2.

"They don’t want to see me comment, but I’m not going anywhere,” said Crews. "They lead this thing through shame. [They] shame you so you feel like you gotta hide in the house...[But] once you get rid of shame, you get to step off the slave plantation. And I get to be free. This is a good thing."
