Remember the 1977 movie Black Samurai? Maybe not. But thanks to Common and the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, you're about to have fond memories of D.R.A.G.O.N. (Defense Reserve Agency Guardian of Nations) agent Robert Sand. Common has signed on to star in a TV reboot of the Al Adamson film (itself an adaptation of the 1974 book series by Marc Olden), according to Variety.

"Robert Sand is like black Jason Bourne," producer Andre Gaines (Da Sweet Blood of Jesus) said in a statement. "Black Samurai is one of the most unique, timely and fun experiences I've ever read, while at the same time tackling some serious subjects around race and diversity." The project, currently being shopped with "much interest," is looking for a writer and director. RZA is attached as an executive producer, alongside Wu Films' Diane Crafford and Mitchell Diggs.

"There is a long tradition and storied relationship between hip-hop and martial arts," Gaines said of RZA's involvement. "Having RZA and the Wu-Tang brand on board to executive produce will validate the series even more and mobilize the fans." The series will see Common, starring as Agent Sand, rescued by a Japanese samurai after enduring years of racism in the military and witnessing the death of his teacher. Sand ultimately sets out to avenge the death by tracking down terrorists, using the same skills he learned as a samurai-in-training.

Common will next be seen shredding some PG-13 edginess alongside Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith in Suicide Squad, which may or may not have peaked immediately upon unveiling its first trailer:
