Brendan Fraser gave fans one hell of a surprise last Friday at a double feature of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns in London.

As seen in the footage above, the actor—whose most recent filmography entry The Whale has garnered acclaim and awards attention—surprised attendees of the 35mm special presentation at the Prince Charles Cinema by showing up to introduce the two films.

“We had no idea what kind of movie we were making when we shot this,” Fraser told the crowd of the original Mummy, which became a massive box office hit upon its 1999 release. “We didn’t know if it was a drama or a comedy or straight-ahead action, romance, horror picture, more action, all of the above. No idea until it tested in front of British audiences. Thank you for that.”

In closing, Fraser shouted out several of his collaborators from the franchise, including co-star Rachel Weisz. He also urged the audience to see Darren Aronofsky’s aforementioned The Whale. See more above.

Among the projects confirmed to be next on Fraser’s slate is Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited Killers of the Flower Moon, an adaptation of the David Grann book of the same name. As Deadline reported back in August of 2021, Fraser was tapped to play lawyer W.S. Hamilton in a cast that also boasts Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The film is expected to be released later this year.
