We may be mere months away from the debut of Apple's long-rumored Netflix-esque streaming service.
That's the latest public whispering from The Information, which stayed true to its namesake with the delivery of some new info on Apple's new streaming service earlier this week. Tim Cook and company have reportedly nudged multiple studios to let them know the service will be "ready for launch by mid-April."
As The Vergepoints out, we basically have zero confirmed information on how Apple is planning to execute their move into a market that already includes competitors like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. Presumably, the service will be priced at a point that's competitive with the models of pre-existing apps. It's not clear, however, whether Apple will offer the chance to bundle the new service with Apple Music or if current Apple users will get some sort of break other than an alleged assortment of free programs.
We also don't know for certain, at least technically, which previously reported projects Apple is planning to include on the service. Previously reported Apple signees include Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Octavia Spencer, Damien Chazelle, and M. Night Shyamalan. "[Apple gets] our vision and they just stepped up and they really wanted to be in business with us in a big way," Reese Witherspoon, who's also inked a deal with the company, said last year.
Also of note, even for an admitted Apple mega-defender like myself, is that the company could definitely use this kind of attention ASAP in light of that whole FaceTime thing.
