The anticipated Star Wars spin-off movie centered around the fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett has reportedly been canceled.
Emmy-winning journalist Erick Weber posted a tweet last night saying he spoke with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and she personally confirmed that the proposed project was now, "100% dead."
Weber also said that Kennedy confirmed the focus going forward was going to be placed on the upcoming television series, The Mandalorian, a series that follows a lone gunfighter on his journey far from the rulings of the New Republic.
Rumors of a Boba Fett film go as far back as 2013 with no official confirmation on filming ever coming from Lucasfilm. Logan director James Mangold was even rumored to have been tapped to pen a screenplay this past May.
The cancellation of a future Boba Fett film can most likely be credited to the poor box office sales of the franchise's most recent standalone film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. The Spring 2018 release only made $392 million worldwide, significantly less than the $1 billion plus the other three most recent Star Wars films have each accumulated.
As for The Mandalorian, the live-action series executive produced by Jon Favreau is scheduled to release exclusively on Disney streaming platforms in 2019. Fans of the classic franchise will have to wait until late 2019 for its next silver screen appearance when the yet-to-be-titled Star Wars: Episode IX is slated to hit theaters.
