Let's keep it 💯: Loki is (arguably) one of the greatest villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he wasn't seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron OR Captain America: Civil War, his work in the Thor films and the first Avengers solidified the Prince of Lies' deceptive ways like few other MCU big bads. Much of that is how Tom Hiddleston played Loki; dying his hair jet black, carrying his scepter, and being one of the most conniving, treacherous villains we've seen in a superhero film in a long time. Based on how the original Marvel character looks, he's actually a perfect fit, which makes the fact that he originally auditioned for the role of Thor that much stranger.
In a 2012 interview with Den of Geek, Hiddleston said that Thor director Kenneth Branagh actually persuaded him to come in and interview. "That was what I was being considered for, because I’m tall and blonde and classically trained," Hiddleston remembered, "and that seemed to be the mould for what Thor was, he was to be a classical character." At the time, Hiddleston told Collider that he had to put on "20 pounds of extra muscle," and while he sayd he "had an advocate in Branagh," the role ultimately went to Chris Hemsworth, who has the more chisled look (especially with the blonde wig) that we think of when we look back at Marvel's Thor.
As you can see in the video above, he actually did the damn thing. He looks smaller than Thor, but if they went in that direction, it's hard to believe that he would have failed. Luckily for us, they had him read for Loki, and as you've seen in the two Thor films and in Avengers, Hiddleston's classically-trained voice was PERFECT for Thor's black sheep of a brother.
