Hulu’s legal drama Reasonable Doubtis well into its first season and things are heating up in Episode 8 titled “Song Cry,” as the show inches closer to the season finale.

Reasonable Doubt is the first scripted series created by Onyx Collective—a content brand owned and operated by Disney that creates projects from creators of color and other underrepresented groups. The series stars Emayatzy Corinealdi, Michael Ealy, Sean Patrick Thomas, and more and it follows a brilliant and fearless defense attorney in Los Angeles named Jax Stewart (Corinealdi.)

Jax has found great success in the corporate legal world after years of working as a public defender. Jax is a force and while her career is on fire, her life at home is anything but perfect. Her husband Lewis (McKinley Freeman) moved out and they are currently separated after he asked her to make him and their two kids her main priority. Balance is not always easy for women in powerful positions, and Season 1 sees Jax juggling her work while also attempting to salvage all the important relationships in her life.

In the exclusive clip above, Jax finds herself in a new relationship with a man named Damon (Ealy) from her past, whom she defended during her time working in the district attorney’s office. Upon his release from jail, Damon and Jax rekindled their romance that initially blossomed during his trial. He then starts making more demands from her that she’s not prepared to give him, and she quickly puts him in his place. Episode 8, directed by Numa Perrier, also provides more flashbacks to teenage Jax and helps viewers gain a deeper understanding of the childhood trauma she went through and how that informs her current relationships.

The series features an all-Black writing team, and each episode was directed by a Black director. The show and each episode title are inspired by Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt and his discography. Check out the exclusive clip above before Episode 8 debuts on Tuesday, Nov. 8. If you haven’t tuned in, catch up now. The debut episode of the legal drama series, which executive producer Kerry Washington directed, will also air on ABC on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m. EST.
