While Todd and Julie Chrisley are now finally out from behind bars, they may still be paying the price for the time they spent in prison. In an episode of the Chrisley Confessions podcast posted on Wednesday, July 30, Julie revealed that she is still struggling with health complications due to the poor conditions at FMC Lexington Prison in Kentucky. The 52-year-old Chrisley Knows Best star spent 28 months locked up after being convicted for financial crimes, including fraud and tax evasion.

“I have a lung condition from being in prison,” Julie revealed during the recent episode of the podcast she shares alongside her husband, Todd.

Julie’s condition was reportedly the result of breathing in asbestos, which is a toxic and carcinogenic mineral. It has been linked to lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Julie acknowledged that some fans may have already noticed that something was off with her just from listening to her during recent podcast episodes.

“You will probably notice me at certain times, trying to get a breath,” she said.

Todd noted that Julie will have to see a pulmonologist in order to get an official diagnosis and determine what the next steps of treatment should be. However, he emphasized that this is something that they’re taking very seriously and will be taking care of right away.

“That’s something we’re going to have to address right now,” he said.

After Julie made these claims, the Federal Bureau of Prisons released a statement in which they claimed that they take running their facilities safely very seriously.

“We take seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody,” the statement read. “As well as maintaining the safety of our employees and the community. Humane treatment of men and women is our top priority.”
