A 4-year-old who went viral for wanting to be Mexican just had his wish come true—well, sort of.
In the viral clip, Zavion is throwing a tantrum while telling his mom he wants to be Mexican because he eats quesadillas. The Mexico national soccer team soon found the boy and bestowed upon him his apparent favorite food, quesadillas, and an El Tri jersey.
Another TikTok from his mother, Belaynesh Gebre, shows her son meeting the soccer team players, putting on the jersey, and holding a quesadilla in one hand. It also looks like he attended a soccer game and even took some photos with fans.
The original video of Zavion was also taken by his mom, where we seem him pouting in his car seat because he’s not Mexican.
When she asks what’s wrong, he says he’s mad because he wants to be Mexican.
"You're Ethiopian. You're African, you're black," she tells him. When she asks why he wants to be Mexican, he yells, "Because I eat quesadillas!"
"So you don't want to be from Africa anymore?" she asks, to which he responds, “No.”
"Where do you get this from? Why do you, what makes you wanna be Mexican? You can't just be Mexican just because you eat quesadillas,” she says.
Another kid off-camera describes someone they know who’s half Mexican and half Ethiopian. The 4-year-old asks, "But why am I not Mexican too?"
His mother responds, "Because your parents are not Mexican his mom is Mexican, I'm not Mexican. Your dad is not Mexican." But he just won’t let it go, proclaiming at the end, “I wanna be Mexican!”
