Ezra Miller has been absent from Hollywood after a string of troubling incidents. But according to the actor, he's willing to give showbusiness another go, though on "tentative grounds."
The actor sat down with the Italian outlet, Lo Speciale Giornale, shortly after Miller attended Cannes Film Festival in May, their first major red-carpet appearance in two years, following a string of legal issues.
"If you've been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes, where every photographer and every weirdo, every rich genocidal freak (will) be there, you know what I mean?" Miller said. "It's not an easy reentry."
Miller appeared at Cannes at the request of their friend, director Lynne Ramsay. They added that they would consider returning to the film industry but on “tentative grounds," per Variety.
Dating back to 2020, Miller was at the center of several scandals, including assault, harassment, burglary, and allegedly grooming an 18-year-old, though the teen’s father recently withdrew the complaint, per Deadline.
"Not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did and for a lot of things that happened in that time, but I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss," Miller told Lo Speciale Giornale.
Miller saw their breakthrough with 2012’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, later playing Credence Barebone in the Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts franchise from 2016 to 2022. They also played Barry Allen in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League. Miller’s last major project was 2023’s The Flash.
Miller also revealed to the outlet that they’ve been “writing a lot” and working with Ramsay on a film.
