Following the news that Jonah Hill had exited The Batman, it was announced that Paul Dano will be joining the project as The Riddler. Dano will be the second actor to portray the iconic villain on the big screen, following in the footsteps of Jim Carrey, who played The Riddler in Batman Forever.

Early reactions to the casting have been overwhelmingly positive, with many online pointing to the countless great performances that Dano has previously given, including as the hapless priest in There Will be Blood. Considering the already stellar cast, which is fronted by Robert Pattinson in the titular role, Dano is in great company. He joins the recently cast Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

Check out some of the more glowing reactions to Dano's casting below.

I thought Hill would have been an interesting, outside of the box pick for Riddler, but Dano is absolute perfection. He can pull off weasily punching bag with a vendetta like none other. pic.twitter.com/1X0iligleP

If you’ve seen the movie “Prisoners”, you know Paul Dano is going to KILL this role. If you haven’t, watch it https://t.co/K0bP8UNtIR

Apparently Dano isn't as hard a sell for Batman fans as Pattinson was. The Matt Reeves-directed The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
