Tuesday brought the announcement of the 2020 Webby nominees, which will this year be dubbed the Webbys From Home due to the COVID-19 crisis.
"The internet is our glue right now," Claire Graves, executive director of the Webby Awards, said in a statement. "It's the most powerful tool for us to support and uplift one another, and it is no surprise that this year's nominees are the companies and people leading the charge. They've accelerated their ingenuity, using their platforms to respond to this crisis by innovating, connecting, informing, and helping people all over the world."
Notable names included among this year's class of nominees include Billie Eilish, FKA twigs, Rihanna, Florence Pugh, Bon Iver, Tom Hanks, Serena Williams, Wiz Khalifa, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and more.
Complex is also on the boards for potential wins in five categories. Those include Best Web Personality/Host (Joe La Puma), Branded Entertainment: Documentary (The Spirit of Conviction), Video: Food & Drink (First We Feast's Hot Ones), Social: Food & Drink (First We Feast), and Social: Culture & Lifestyle (#CheckTheDrip). Complex also received honorable mentions in the form of Video: Viral (First We Feast’s Hot Ones), Video: Food & Drink (First We Feast), Branded Entertainment: Comedy (Group Therapy), Best Overall Social Presence: Media/Entertainment (Complex), and Social: Entertainment (Complex). In other words, hell yeah.
All the nominees are eligible to ultimately bring home the Academy-selected Webby Award and the Webby People's Voice Award. Winners will be announced May 19, a date that will also see a special livestream celebration in lieu of a traditional ceremony.
