Rosario Dawson is joining the cast of The Mandalorian Season 2, and she'll portray a Star Wars fan favorite.
As SlashFilm revealed, Dawson has been cast as a character that previously only appeared in animated Star Wars shows. She is expected to take on the role of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's former padawan apprentice. Tano previously appeared in The Clone Wars and Rebels, but this is the first time she'll be in a live-action Star Wars production.
At this late stage in the timeline, Tano's mentor has already turned into Darth Vader and perished. The fate of the character was previously unknown before the news of Dawson's casting, undoubtedly making the wait for the second season of the Disney+ show all the more difficult for fans. (Her voice was one of several disembodied Jedi who called out to Rey in the divisive Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.) Dave Filoni, who has served as a director, writer, and producer on The Mandalorian, originally created the character.
This isn't the first time Dawson has worked on a Disney property, as she acted in a number of Netflix's Marvel shows, including Daredevil and Luke Cage. She's currently starring in USA's Briarpatch in the main role of Allegra "Pick" Dill.
Fans have called on Disney and LucasFilm to cast Dawson as Tano previously, and they'll finally get their wish when Season 2 arrives later this year.
