Former New York Giants defensive end and TV personality Michael Strahan has accused his ex-wife of abusing their children, and now he's seeking primary custody, TMZ reports. Strahan claims that Jean Muggli physically and emotionally abused their daughters, Sophia and Isabella.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, the 48-year-old said he has proof of such abuse and plans to detail it all at a later date. He added that Muggli has continually engaged in a "pattern of abusive conduct towards the children for years," and that she hasn't been taking them to their court-ordered therapy sessions and has continually made them late for extracurricular activities like volleyball and equestrian events. Strahan has visitation rights, but he's asking a judge to give him primary custody so that their 15-year-old daughters can move in with him in New York. They currently live with their mother in North Carolina.
While Strahan is willing to allow Muggli to have the same visitation rights he has right now, that's about as far as he's willing to go. Last year Strahan and Muggli were involved in a legal battle over child support payments, with the latter asking for over $320,000 in back payments. She also accused him of agreeing to pay half of the horseback riding bills, and owes her over $450,000. Strahan has denied he ever agreed to such an arrangement.
Strahan and Muggli were married in 1999, and they welcomed their twin daughters in 2004 before divorcing in 2006.
