FX's president of entertainment, Eric Schrier, made this announcement during the network's Tuesday presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour. Schrier also praised the show's executive producers, Donald Glover, Paul Simms, Dianne McGunigle, and Stephen Glover.
"What more can be said about Atlanta than the critical acclaim and accolades that Donald, Paul, Dianne, Stephen and Hiro have earned for two exceptional seasons of what is clearly one of the best shows on television," Schrier told the audience. "This group of collaborators and cast have created one of the most original, innovative stories of this generation and we are proud to be their partners."
Since the show premiered in 2016, Atlanta has received major acclaim, winning five Emmys and two Golden Globes over the course of its two seasons. In addition to being a critical success, the series is also a fan favorite. With that said, audiences will be pleased to know that they might not have to go through another long drought between seasons three and four.
Per Variety, the previously confirmed season three as well as four, will begin production in the spring of 2020 and consist of eight episodes each. While the 2020 timeline is in line with the two-year gap between the first and second season, there is a possibility that FX could release the next two seasons somewhat consecutively. No such announcement has been made, so at this point it's simply speculation.
