A pair of filmmakers and Recesssuperfans are hoping to create a live-action film following the kids of Third Street Elementary. Vancouver creators Jerome Yoo and Kent Donguines are looking to crowdfund a fan-made movie following TJ, Spinelli, Gus, Gretchen, Vince, and Mikey as they go through high school.

"One question continued to haunt us - what happened to the gang after 4th grade?" they shared in their pitch on Indiegogo. "Well we're here to answer that question for you! As filmmakers, we want to explore a more grown-up version of the show - same characters, different issues. A live action, re-imagining of the gang in a high school setting tackling current issues like love, peer pressure, social media, identity, etc."

We can't spot any way this could go left, given Disney's reputation as a totally hands-off, non-litigious corporation. It seems they are hoping to skirt this by releasing the film for free.

"All money raised on this page will go purely into the making of this film," they shared on IndieGoGo. "We will not be submitting the film to festivals - it will go directly online for all to see and enjoy!"

The team has raised about $1000 of their $6836 goal and they only have 4 days left to make up the funds, so the adventures of the Recess gang may well remain in the past. The campaign is enjoying a bit of a signal boost from articles (like this one) spreading the story of these Saturday morning cartoon fans.
