Chris Evans is no fan of big dumb false equivalencies, i.e. the so-called "straight pride parade" that's supposedly set for Boston this August.
The Avengers alum and star of Rian Johnson's upcoming crime drama Knives Out let fans know his stance on the far-right event by way of a pair of tweets Wednesday. After facetiously opening his comments by calling the parade a "cool initiative," Evans cut right to the center of why such an event (the origin of which is detailed here) doesn't make any sense.
Instead of dubbing it the "straight pride parade," Evans suggested, perhaps the organizers should have gone with something more in the general neighborhood of "the 'desperately trying to bury our own gay thoughts by being homophobic because no one taught us how to access our emotions as children' parade."
Shortly after, Evans added that he was disappointed by the continued sharing of those aforementioned "false equivalencies" from those defending this whole "straight pride" thing, advocating instead for the pursuit of empathy:
Evans was among those who expressed similar disappointment in last month’s attacks on abortion rights in states like Alabama and Missouri.
Back in March, when Endgame theorizing was indeed still in full swing, Evans used a chunk of his THR cover story to affirm that any talks of a retirement from acting were quite overblown. "I never said the word 'retire,'" he noted. "It's a really obnoxious notion for an actor to say they're going to retire—it's not something you retire from."
