UPDATED 04/25/19 6:00 p.m. ET: In an application to secure temporary conservatorship over her son's health and finances, John Singleton's mother said he suffered a "major stroke" and is now in a coma.
In the documentation submitted to California's Superior Court, Singleton's mother writes that prior to his stroke John "was engaged in several business projects and was prepared to sign a lucrative settlement agreement on or about April 30, 2019."

Oscar-nominated director John Singleton has reportedly suffered a stroke and is recovering in a hospital, Deadline reports. Shoutouts and prayers overflowed on social media for the director, whose current condition is unknown.
Singleton directed the hugely popular 1991 film Boyz n the Hood, which landed him two Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. He was also the youngest filmmaker nominated in those categories.
Additionally, he directed the video for Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time.” His other works include Rosewood, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers, and Michael Jackson's "Remember the Time." He also directed episoders of The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Empire, and Billions.
