Sources close to Variety have confirmed that John Cena is in talks to join the follow up to Suicide Squad.

This would mark Cena's first role in a comic book movie. He appeared in last year's Transformers film Bumblebee, which earned $468 million at the box office.

If chosen, Cena will join the likes of Margot Robbie, who will reprise her role as Harley Quinn. Recently, Idris Elba was also booked to appear and, though it was speculated the Luther star would take on Will Smith's role of Deadshot, it was later confirmed that he will be portraying a different character. Also, sources close to James Gunn, the movie's director, say that he is interested in bringing in his Guardians of the Galaxy actor/Cena's fellow WWE alum Dave Bautista for the role of Peacemaker.

James Gunn will be writing and directing the upcoming DC film. Recently, he was brought back in by Marvel to direct Guardians 3. Regarding his re-hire, he said, "I deeply appreciate Disney's decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all."
