Atlanta Robbin’ Season drops tonight and fans can hardly wait to see what’s on the horizon for Earn, Paper Boi, and Darius. The popular FX series garnered award-winning and public acclaim with its first season, but no one can judge you like your day ones, which is why TheWrap interviewed the former members of Derrick Comedy to see what they think of Donald Glover’s hit show.

For those who don’t know, Derrick Comedy was an internet sketch-comedy group Donald Glover joined while attending New York University. The Derrick Comedy team created viral videos that raked in millions of views on YouTube. Check out one of their popular sketches below.

The group, founded in 2006, included Glover as well as actors Dominic Dierkes and DC Pierson, their director Dan Eckman, and their producer Meggie McFadden, who says Atlanta is a clear reflection of her former collaborator.

“It’s so Donald,” McFadden told TheWrap. “I don’t know. I feel like Derrick had this great combination of everybody’s sensibilities. But I don’t know. I don’t really know what to say about it other than it’s extremely Donald. And he was always interested in exploring subcultures and the way that people live in America and it’s very him. And I think he likes humor coming from darker places and I think that’s present in a lot of our sketches, albeit in an extremely heightened and maybe a little bit goofier way.”

Pierson agrees. “I think it’s obviously like, you see on display parts of what makes him so good,” he said. “And I think also too, it’s cool to see it’s just been what he’s done with music, or with the show, is very, very him. So it’s tough to say that came from us. It comes from him.”

Eckman, the crew’s director, says that it’s no surprise that Atlanta is so good, “because he’s really, really good.” The group anticipated Glover’s success back when they began doing comedy sketches. In fact, they even had a “countdown until Donald was famous.”

“There was just no question. We all felt confident in our own abilities. But there was no question. He was going to be a superstar,” Eckman said. They weren't wrong. Catch Atlanta Robbin' Season tonight on FX at 10 p.m.
