If you haven't already checked out The Handmaid's Tale, you may want to catch up ASAP. Hulu's wildly successful original series made our list of 2017's best shows and as if that wasn't enough, it may be getting the coveted Drake feature. Ok, so nothing is confirmed as of yet, but it will be if Margaret Atwood has her way. The legendary Canadian author sat down for an interview with the Boston Review last week to chat about her incredible career and the recent television adaptation of her 1985 novel.
The discussion began with a striking comparison between Atwood's work and the current sociopolitical climate, but it eventually took a pit stop when Atwood showed some major love for fellow Ontarian, Drizzy Drake. When asked by fellow writer, Junot Díaz, the iconic Ottawa native said that she's all for a surprise appearance from the 6ix God in the next season of Handmaid's Tale. It's admittedly a bit of a stretch, but we suppose Atwood is hoping to speak this into existence. Seeing as how Aubrey is undoubtedly one of our country's proudest sons, it's quite possible that he'll help a fellow Canuck out.
"I haven’t met Drake, but I have of course met people who have met Drake," Atwood states. "But you have to realize how o-l-d I am. I’m not likely to go to the same parties. Or many parties at all, to be frank." Despite this admission, the scribe was more than happy to float out the possibility into the ether. "Wouldn’t it be fun for him to have a cameo in season two of The Handmaid’s Tale?" As for what role he would play? Margaret already has an idea. "I’ll drop that notion into the ear of Bruce Miller, the showrunner, and see what he can do with that, because of course the show is filmed in Toronto. Maybe Drake could help smuggle someone?"
Given that Drake has expressed serious interest in acting sometime soon, it would be foolish to rule out this totally random and equally amazing cameo spot. In the meantime, you can binge the entire first season on Hulu right now.
