We have a feeling that many of you will be heading out to SXSW, and need some traveling music. This was a stellar week for dance music, especially if you have a disdain for the “commercial EDM sound,” whatever you want to classify that as being. That said, if you’re looking for a playlist or batch of tracks to bounce to while you’re making your way to Austin, we’ve got you covered. Hell, you might be able to catch some of these acts while you’re in Austin. Just dig a little.
RL Grime & What So Not – “Tell Me”
You have to love when long-awaited collabs are white-hot. Epic turn up.
AlunaGeorge – “Kaleidoscope Love (Kaytranada Remix)”
Kaytranada doesn’t know how to do wrong.
A$AP Rocky x Baauer – “Riot Rave”
We’re not sure how this full A$AP Rocky instrumental project would sound, but this cut with Baauer is pretty damn epic.
7.
Rustie – “Starttt”
Rustie just has bangers sitting on deck. No word on a release date on this one, but it’s tough.
9.
Meg Myers – “Desire (Hucci Remix)”
Young Hucci might be at his best when he’s on his job as a remixer.
Bok Bok ft. Kelela – “Melba’s Call”
This feels like the trippiest Skype session ever.
13.
Dog Blood – “Chella Ride”
Dog Blood = Skrillex & Boys Noize. This video? Epic. Two dogs flying around in space? In black-and-white, graphic novel-esque beauty?
15.
Daughter – “Get Lucky (Shadow Child VIP)”
Nope, “Get Lucky” cover remixes aren’t dead, but Shadow Child spacing taking some time to release of his VIP rework of Daughter’s cover was a smart idea. It’s a beaut.
Kidnap Kid – “Like You Used To”
The flipside of Kidnap Kid’s “Stronger” is just as beautiful.
Louisahhh!!! & Maelstrom – “Night Clubbing”
New Bromance from a pair that have been doing the damn thing together for a bit. The sound of a darker night out.
HAIM – “If I Could Change Your Mind (MK Remix)”
Only MK can turn this dance-y tune into something even more dance-y.
23.
DJ Rashad x DJ Spinn x Taso – “Luchini VIP”
A footwork rework of Camp Lo’s “Luchini?” All over that. TEKLIFE TILL THE NEXT LIFE.
Emerald Soul – “Fire Pit”
You probably don’t know about this producer. Diplo does. This is the second tune he’s thrown onto the Internet, and it feels like an intense bonfire dance party.
Jacuzzi Seppuku Pt. 1
Two bass-fueled bangers featuring production from Mr. Carmack. You’re welcome.
Toddla T Sound – “Acid”
Toddla T’s crew isn’t messing about.
Mickey Pearce’s Up West
A free collection of nine bangers, including a remix of Denzel Curry’s “Threatz.”
Boxed, Vol. 1
This UK grime night in London turned one and gave away an 18-track compilation. It bangs.
Porter Robinson – “Sea Of Voices”
Porter kept to his word, and isn’t giving a fuck about EDM formulas. “Sea Of Voices” is beautiful, and yes it’s electronic music, but showcases the future of where the scene will be going.
