Snootie Wild’s family has issued a statement following the 36-year-old Memphis rapper’s tragic death in Houston.

“We are devastated by the untimely passing of our beloved LePreston Porter, known to the world as gold-selling and Billboard charting Hip Hop recording artist Snootie Wild,” the post begins. “He meant the world to us. A son, loving boyfriend, brother to four sisters, a father of seven, and a nephew and cousin to a host of others, he held many roles within our family and was a big kid at heart. LePreston was a beautiful, compassionate and talented soul whose presence was ever felt within our family.”

The family call Snootie a “man of the people” who loved to “connect” with his fans.

At the moment, the circumstances that led to his death are unclear. The family is asking his fans to help by “supporting our pursuit for answers and a thorough investigation by the Houston, TX police department that will bring his killers to justice.”

News emerged on Feb. 26 that Snootie had been shot and killed in Houston, which was later confirmed on the CMG artist’s IG. It was reported that a man was found shot in the neck after police received calls about gunfire at around 2 a.m. When they got to the scene, they discovered Snootie in a ditch next to an SUV. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a Facebook post on his account saying he was “fighting for his life.”

Snootie Wild is the second Memphis rapper to die in a shooting in the last few months, with Young Dolph being gunned down in their shared hometown in November at age 36.
