The uniquely piercing pain of modern existence was given a much-needed remedy on Friday with the release of Rico Nasty’s excellent new album Las Ruinas.

The 17-track album opens with a three-track run of previously released tracks “Intrusive,” “Vaderz,” and “Black Punk” before listeners are given the immediately committed-to-memory standout “Messy” with Teezo Touchdown and Bktherula, the latter of whom is also featured in the aforementioned “Vaderz” (and its recently released video directed by Rico and Marco Alexander.)

In a truly inspiring video message shared in tandem with the new album’s release, Rico shared a vulnerable message of gratitude directed at fans and fellow artists alike.

“You’re never gonna be ready. You’re always gonna be anxious,” she’s heard saying in the short compilation video. “One thing I’ve learned about myself is I like to downplay who I am, what I’ve done, the people I’ve touched. I’m so thankful to be who I am today. I’m so thankful to have met all my fans all across the world. I always tell you guys to always be yourselves and doing that has pushed me to be the person I never thought I could be.”

The hardest aspect of life as an artist, Rico added, “is sacrificing who you are in order to be a product.”
