Following the release of her new album Traumazine, Megan Thee Stallion has shared the Colin Tilley-directed music video for “Her.”
Offering a stark black-and-white accompaniment to the hard-hitting track, the stylish clip sees Megan joined by an array of dancers in matching outfits and culminates with her facing off against herself.
“Her” is the third video we’ve gotten for a Traumazine track so far, following “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa and “Plan B.” Director Tilley previously helmed Megan’s videos for “Don’t Stop,” “Body,” and her iconic Cardi B collab “WAP.”
The arrival of the clip comes just a day after the first-week sales projections for Traumazine came in. The record is projected to earn between 40,000 to 50,000 units in its first week, and is expected to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The Houston rapper only confirmed the arrival of Traumazine the same week it dropped. Meanwhile, Rod Wave’s new album Beautiful Mind is likely to snatch the No. 1 spot on the chart, with 120,000 to 140,000 units in its first week.
While speaking with Nadeska and Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Meg talked about her writing process and the evolution of her pen. “I don’t write songs about how I feel, I write songs about how I want to feel,” she said. “So I feel like on this album, it’s probably the first time I figured out how to talk about what I want to say… express myself a little bit more.”
Traumazine is a more personal album for the Houston rapper, who says that she took more freedom and agency—especially on “Anxiety,” which she said was probably the hardest song to write.
After this release, Thee Stallion says she feels a sense of incompleteness—as if the album is a piece that is getting her to where she needs to go, but she still hasn’t reached her destination. “I feel like I have another piece of the stories to tell and that’s another place I’m getting to. I feel like your job is just not done ever. I don’t know. We talked about this a little bit earlier and I feel like I’m not doing enough.”
In the lead-up to the release of Traumazine, Meg made it clear that she was having issues with her record label. “Y’all know I always have problems with dropping my music under this label, all these games and having to go to court just to put out my art has been so stressful,” Megan wrote on Twitter. “Thank you hotties for rocking with me through the bullshit WE ALMOST OUT LETS STAY FOCUSED AND RUN THIS LAST ONE UP.”
