Kendrick Lamar and Taylour Paige’s “We Cry Together” experienced a record-breaking downward spiral on Wednesday, sinking 81 spots on the Billboard Hot 100, the biggest single-week drop in the chart’s history.
The fall comes after all 18 songs on K. Dot’s latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers charted on the Billboard Hot 100. “We Cry Together” debuted at No. 16 on the Hot 100 when the album dropped on May 13, but has since sunk to No. 97. The previous record-holder was A$AP Ferg’s “Move Ya Hips” with MadeinTYO, which debuted at No. 19 but sank to No. 99 a week later.
Still, the Mr. Morale song remains within the Hot 100 and Zola star Taylour Paige revealed the track will soon get the visual treatment by teasing the music video on Instagram.
Kendrick also achieved another milestone on Wednesday. His 2012 sophomore LP good kid, m.A.A.d City has now been on the Billboard 200 chart for 500 weeks, making it the longest-reigning hip-hop album in the chart’s history. It is the second rap release to achieve this feat, following Eminem’s 2005 compilation Curtain Call: The Hits. The project currently sits at No. 17 this week.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers earned an impressive 295,500 equivalent album units in its first week, making it Kendrick’s fourth consecutive No. 1 album and the biggest release of 2022 so far. Kung Fu Kenny soon after revealed he’ll be taking his final TDE release on the road, and will embark on The Big Steppers Tour, which will include support from Baby Keem and Tanna Leone.
