The Louisville rapper lets his scars show on “In Town,” with shots of his late brother flashing throughout the Diesel Films-directed visuals. Gee’s brother is also the rapper’s current profile image on Instagram, making sure to keep him at the front of all the success he receives. Lil Durk also uses his verse to rap about the importance of loyalty and the paranoia that comes from dealing with the streets.
“In Town” comes off EST Gee’s project Bigger Than Life Or Death, which featured appearances from Lil Baby, Future, Yo Gotti, Young Thug, Lil Durk, 42 Dugg, Rylo Rodriguez, and Pooh Shiesty. At the beginning of 2021, Gee signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG Records, becoming a part of an impressive roster that includes other artists like Moneybagg Yo. Gee told Complex how he and Gotti initially got connected and how the deal came about.
“My man Nigel helped put it all together. He worked for Alamo [Records], and they were trying to sign me, but they weren’t trying to put it together the way it needed to be put together. There wasn’t enough cheese. He still wanted to do business with me so he put the play together. He knew [Yo] Gotti, and he knew I fucked with Gotti, so he put it together like that.”
