Buddy has dropped his highly anticipated second studio album Superghetto, which sees him experimenting with new sounds while maintaining his infectious energy.

The latest effort from the Compton native features appearances from Tinashe, Blxst, T-Pain, and Ari Lennox. The follow-up to his 2018 full-length Harlan & Alondra, which got a deluxe reissue in 2020, Superghetto is another strong reminder of how much Buddy has to offer. Production ranges from the stripped-back sounds of “Black 2” to the gorgeous full-band arrangement of “Ain’t Fair.”

“It’s more about the essence [of] growing up in the hood,” Buddy told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 upon announcing Superghetto last month. “I’m from there, so its in me not on me and I take it everywhere I go. Everyone else just has to conform to the energy I’m bringing to the table. That’s what the album sounds like. My experience, from my perspective…the beat selection…it’s a bunch of different flows and cadences.”

To promote the release, Buddy will show up with Blxst to perform their collab “Wait Too Long” on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday. “Excited to give you guys something special,” he said.
