If you can't tell by how many times I've typed the phrase Eternal Atake over the past few months, the hunger for the new (and joyously, briefly, seemingly near-liberation) project from Lil Uzi Vert is indeed palpable. So palpable, in fact, that successful crowdfunding campaigns are being launched to purchase unreleased Uzi cuts from illicit sources.
As detailed in a new report from The Fader's Ben Dandridge-Lemco, a campaign to raise $1,250 on a Discord server named Groupbuys ultimately resulted in this past weekend's surfacing of the tentatively titled "Money Keep Coming." Uzi previously teased the track at his Lil Uzi Vert and Friends holiday show in Philly last December.
At the top of the week, per the report, another successful $1,250 money-raising campaign went down. Notably, the avatar for a Discord user going by SpirDark references a previous leaks-related Uzi incident. Additionally, the username itself—SpirDark—was included in a hacked post on Frank Ocean's Tumblr account earlier this year. This user was allegedly the source of these leaks, later refusing to "confirm or deny" being involved with previous hack incidents but telling The Fader there would be no more Uzi releases. On a since-deleted account, the user reportedly "claimed to have multiple folders full of Pro Tools sessions with unreleased Lil Uzi Vert music."
Uzi, whose excellent "Free Uzi" arrived last week following news of some Roc Nation assistance, has strongly alluded to issues with Luv Is Rage 2 releasers Generation Now and/or Atlantic in recent months. In a statement included in Tuesday's Discord report, however, a Generation Now rep claimed any leaks would not affect the release of a new project, adding that any such drop would occur "when Uzi turns the album in."
As for "Free Uzi," the track was initially made widely available but has since been axed from a number of services, reportedly due to an uncleared sample.
Anyway, if the wait for Eternal Atake does indeed continue, that just gives us all more time to do additional prep reading on Heaven's Gate and the Antichrist Superstar.
