The latest Verzuz battle brought together two giants of New York, Dipset and The LOX, at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.

Among the massive crowd of fans who were tuned in for the highly anticipated showdown was Tyler, the Creator, who famously referenced LOX member Jadakiss years ago during the origins of what would become his 2011 track “Yonkers.”

In the comments of the Verzuz stream, Tyler—whose Call Me If You Get Lost Tour with Vince Staples and Kali Uchis was just announced—praised Jadakiss for showing “confidence and voice control” during the battle.

“pause i think i gotta crush on jadakiss,” Tyler said. “that n***a confidence and voice control is crazy and he aged well wheesh.”

Later, Tyler joined viewers who were in awe of Jadakiss’ skincare routine and took to Twitter to declare him “mvp.”

Jadakiss was widely commended after Tuesday night’s Verzuz showing, which actually marked the artist’s second appearance on the Timbaland and Swizz Beatz-founded series. Back in June of last year, Jada faced off against Fabolous. The new Dipset battle, per Jadakiss himself, stands as a “a great night for hip-hop.”

Back in 2016, a decidedly pre-Verzuz time, Tyler was joined by Vince Staples for an interview in which he reflected on initially making the “Yonkers” beat “as a joke.” At one point during the sessions, Staples recalled, Tyler “started rapping like Jadakiss for, like, two hours.”

Also joining Tyler on his aforementioned 2022 tour in support of Call Me If You Get Lost is Teezo Touchdown, who at the top of this year was named as one of the 21 rising artists to watch in 2021.
