T-Pain, for those who clearly need a reminder, is not a soccer star.
Despite this well-documented fact, the two-time Grammy winner (and 13-time nominee) found himself unwillingly placed at the center of footballery this weekend thanks to whoever’s running DoorDash’s X account.
All told, the “I’m Sprung” hitmaker was mistakenly tagged nine times on X this weekend, despite, as is apparently worth pointing out again, having nothing to do with matters of footballery. In fact, T-Pain was busy performing at Red Rocks at the time.
“What exactly do you want me to do?” he wrote in response to one such X post.
“Who do you think you’re tagging?” he said when reacting to another.
Later, he joked that whoever kept tagging him was likely to “shit a brick” when they realized their repeated mistake, then got a bit more firm when urging them to cut it out.
“Are you all okay???” he asked. “Stop tagging me in these soccer posts.”
It’s clear that DoorDash was intending to tag Tim Payne of New Zealand amid FIFA World Cup festivities, an error the popular food delivery platform later acknowledged.
“To everyone who saw my tweets last night… no you didn’t,” reads an X post shared by the company in the aftermath of the confusion on Monday (June 22), as seen below.
Despite the unserious nature of this conundrum, Complex has quite earnestly reached out to DoorDash reps for comment. This story may be updated, or it may not. Who’s to say?
