Songs From Lil Wayne's 'Velvet' Sessions Surface

Mack Maine teased a 'Velvet' release early last year, but nothing official ever went down. Now, tracks purportedly taken from those sessions have surfaced.

I'm not going to use the word "leak" here, at least not again, because I'm not allowed to do such a thing. However, I can inform you of the surfacing of multiple tracks believed to stem from Lil Wayne's Velvet sessions.

As you may recall, Velvet is the name of a project Young Money president Mack Maine teased back in the pre-Carter V year of 2017. "We wanna get that Carter V out," Maine toldRevolt in January 2017. "Wayne also has a dope project called Velvet. We want to get that out . . . We got some shit in the chamber for y'all, man. We gonna be all over your radio, all over your TV screen. If you got any problems with us, you not gonna be able to avoid us."

Now, a bulk of purported Velvet sessions era tracks have popped up online. I can't link to them or otherwise mention where they might be found in this post, so that part is up to you. However, it is worth noting some discrepancies in the included material. As astute fans have been discussing for several hours now, a few of these 10 tracks likely originated from a different Wayne era. Still, the bulk of them are believed to be genuine Velvet possibles.

Here's a tracklist of Velvet Sessions, which features an appearance by his daughter Reginae Carter ("Little Girl Eyes") and a prominent sample of SWV's "Weak" on a song by the same name.

Multiple Velvet links have been removed due to a filing by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, because that's just how these things tend to go.

It's also worth noting that Velvet chatter has re-emerged shortly after Mannie Fresh teased that as many as 11 scrapped Carter V tracks could soon see the light of day. "Dude is just like, 'Let this ride and you can put those songs out'" Fresh told LiveXLive. "So the world will get to hear Mannie Fresh x Carter. It'll be the Fresh Files."

Wayne has also been confirmed as one of Mike Will Made-It's recruits for the upcoming soundtrack to Creed II. Weezy will be joined by Nas, Kendrick Lamar, YG, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Swae Lee, and more. The album is expected to hit the same day Steven Caple Jr.'s movie arrives in theaters, Nov. 21.
