Mac Miller's posthumously released Circles opens at No. 3 on the latest Billboard 200 chart update with 164,000 equivalent album units.
Circles is the first (and likely lone) posthumous album from Mac, who died in 2018. It was preceded by his fifth album Swimming, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album but ultimately lost out to Cardi B's debut album Invasion of Privacy.
Producer and composer Jon Brion, who helped bring Circles to life, spoke with Craig Jenkins for a Vulture piece published last week. Recalling the emotionally challenging process of brining the album to completion, Brion said that he "worked painfully slowly" as he figured out how to change "as little as possible" of what Mac had left behind.
Eminem's Music to Be Murdered By came in at No. 1 with 279,000 equivalent album units for the week ending Jan. 23. The album also marked the biggest streaming week in four months (with 217.6 on-demand streams), as well as gave Em the distinction of breaking his No. 1 albums tie with Kanye West. It's Em's 10th No. 1 album on the chart.
Elsewhere on the latest Billboard 200 update, the No. 2 spot goes to Halsey's Manic, which was supported this weekend with a pair of SNL performances. Halsey's third studio album bagged 239,000 equivalent album units. That result, per Billboard, is large enough to earn Halsey the biggest No. 2 week since Lemonade back in May 2016.
The rest of the top five sees Roddy Ricch dropping to No. 4 with Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial (103,000 equivalent album units) and Post Malone's Hollywood's Bleeding (53,000 equivalent album units) dropping to No. 5.
