I keep hoping a reason will present itself for me to write an entire article about "Summer Games," a.k.a. the best Drake song in years, but we aren't quite there yet.
Instead, today brings us more insight into the real-life love happenings behind "In My Feelings." The track, as has been widely speculated on with varying degrees of believability, references both a "Kiki" and a "KB" in the first and third iteration of its chorus. First, after a promise to "be real with it" in the intro, Drake asks "Kiki" about the possible permanence of their feelings for each other:
Kiki, do you love me? Are you riding?
Say you'll never ever leave from beside me
'Cause I want ya, and I need ya
And I'm down for you always
Later, he presents the same inquiry to "KB":
KB, do you love me?
Initially, Drake fans with too much time on their hands tried to link "Kiki" with Canadian TV personality Keshia "KeKe" Chanté. Entire articles were written about this, which is whatever, but we now have a Genius-reported reason to believe otherwise. For anyone who cares, the Kiki referenced in the Scorpion Side B cut is—at least according to a "credible source close to the situation"—K'yanna Barber of Oakland, California. Thus, the "Kiki" and "KB" mentioned in the track are (most likely) references to the same person.
Barber, who's tweeted about the track (and the 6 God's Pusha-T-revealed child) a few times in recent days, is affiliated with the Hyphy Hoochies and was previously linked with Drake via poorly written gossip articles circa 2017.
Complex has reached out to Drake reps for comment, a request to which I hope they respond with a promise to launch a Summer Games World Tour in which Drake performs the song over and over again for 90 minutes.
