For the week ending July 12, Drake is expected to bag at least another 300,000 equivalent album units to add to last week's 732,000. If that figure holds up, Scorpion will have the added distinction of landing the biggest sophomore week since his own Views hit 313,000 back in 2016.
Elsewhere on next week's Billboard 200 chart, Post Malone's beerbongs & bentleys is projected to slide in at No. 2 with roughly 70,000 units. Future and Zaytoven's surprise-dropped BEASTMODE 2 sequel, however, is looking at a possible 60,000 units debut. While current projections have the long-awaited sequel opening at No. 3, the predicted weekly hauls are close enough that the positions could theoretically be swapped when final numbers are released.
Anyway, I just want to keep talking about "Summer Games." The Scorpion Side B cut is dripping with a heavy mid-breakup vibe a la The 1975's "Somebody Else," but with an even deeper commitment to minimalism. In my routinely devalued opinion, it's the best 6 god song in years and should be a radio mainstay when colder months return, but I digress.
If Variety's sources are truly onto something, then even more new music could be arriving sooner than expected. When Drake inks a new deal, per the report, he will likely "have another release ready to drop to accompany the news."
