Demi Lovato Overdose Reportedly the Result of Fentanyl-Laced Oxycodone

Fentanyl, the same substance that killed Prince and Lil Peep, may have played a part in Demi Lovato's recent overdose.

TMZ—who it's worth noting previously falsely claimed heroin was involved in Lovato's overdose last month—issued a report Tuesday alleging that Oxycodone laced with fentanyl caused the incident. The person who provided the allegedly laced Oxycodone, the report further alleged, fled Lovato's Los Angeles home after noticing signs of distress.

"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," Lovato said in a statement shared to social media earlier this month, marking her first time speaking out publicly about the overdose. "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet." Lovato went on to thank her fans, family, and the Cedars-Sinai hospital staff for staying by her side. "Without them, I wouldn't be here writing this letter to all of you."

Last week, Lovato called off her remaining 2018 tour dates after checking out of Cedars-Sinai. The cancellation, per reports, was necessary so that Lovato could focus on her path to recovery. Lovato marked six years of sobriety back in March. In her single "Sober," released in June, she suggested that she had relapsed. Lovato's journey is also chronicled in the excellent 2017 YouTube documentary Simply Complicated.
