Billie Eilish's incredible 2019/2020 run continues later this month with a performance at the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony. But first, she's been announced as the latest Vogue cover star, complete with an extended interview by Rob Haskell in which she reflects on last month's Grammys sweep, defends Drake, and more.
"That shit was fucking crazy," Eilish said of the Alicia Keys-hosted Grammys, which saw Billie take home multiple awards including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. "If anything it's an exciting thing for the kids who make music in their bedroom. We're making progress, I think, in that place—kids who don't have enough money to use studios."
Speaking further on her own studio process, Eilish recalled a period in which the Powers That Be had her and brother/collaborator Finneas O'Connell bouncing around to different traditional studios, an experience she said ultimately resulted in them both realizing even deeper that recording in a less sterile atmosphere produced better results.
Elsewhere, Eilish defended Drake in reference to the criticism he received from some regarding their texting. As Eilish explained, the texts were merely a matter of respect between two artists, not to mention the fact that some who were quick to demonize Drake were likely the same people who continue to stan for Trump.
"The internet is such a stupid-ass mess right now," Eilish said. "Everybody's so sensitive. A grown man can't be a fan of an artist? There are so many people that the internet should be more worried about. Like, you're really going to say that Drake is creepy because he's a fan of mine, and then you're going to go vote for Trump? What the fuck is that shit?"
