Toronto rapper Road Runner drops new single "Trapistan"

Right in the midst of celebrating a not guilty verdict, Toronto’s Road Runner just dropped his highly anticipated mixtape Trapistan.

Featuring collabs with Portion, 3MFrench, Yung Tory, and ABG Neal, Trapistan is the most versatile release from the Pakistani-Canadian rapper yet. The beats are more varied, switching between uptempo, soulful, and pensive.

While experimenting more sonically, Road Runner is still just as proud to rep his roots in Toronto’s Thorncliffe Park. From sharing his rough teenage years on “Thorncliffe Intro” to him chilling outside of East York Town Centre in the music video for title track “Trapistan,” it’s clear Runner has spent a lot of time thinking about home.

Road Runner has been working on Trapistan since the release of his 2021 mixtape Forever Alone, which hit No. 1 on iTunes’ hip-hop chart in Canada. The EP went viral while he was on house arrest, so his ability to celebrate was flattened. “I’m not even able to enjoy my shit going No. 1 because I’m stuck at home,” he told Complex Canada. “The only place I see is the Internet. If I was outside, I would definitely pop a champagne bottle or something.”

On March 4, Runner posted a video of him ripping off his ankle tag, announcing he was found not guilty for the charges that left him homebound. With many of the restrictions in his home province of Ontario being lifted recently, he’ll be able to celebrate twice as hard to make up for lost time.
