Puffy L’z has tapped fellow Torontonian SAFE for “Firm,” their new track out today.

“Firm” comes naturally for the pair, as Puffy and SAFE both came out of Regent Park’s Halal Gang, alongside Mustafa, Mo-G, and the late Smoke Dawg. “I feel like the song has the authentic Halal Gang vibe to it, that’s why SAFE wanted to jump on it,” says Puffy L’z. “It’s a real song, we just let loose, said what’s on our mind in the moment and kept it raw. We recorded this in New York, and I think you can feel that vibe in the record.”

Puffy has been recording much of his work in New York these days. His March track “Tribecca Nights” was also recorded across the border as he gears up to release more new music this year.

SAFE also dropped his EP Get Home SAFE earlier this year. He told Complex Canada around its release that it’s his most honest project yet. “I was more focused on telling my story and being more honest and open. I feel like that helped deliver vocally. Just being vulnerable in those elements and just creating that really speaks to me and has purpose,” he said. “I feel what stands out to me with any artist out there is when they’re speaking the truth and they’re honest and that’s the number one thing that I want. I want to focus on being as true to myself as possible. Those are just the feelings and emotions that helped create that project. Get Home SAFE is definitely my most cohesive body of work so far.”
