While the hip-hop world waited to see if Drake would reference his recent battle with Pusha-T on his new album Scorpion, it's Drizzy's past battles that take up prime real estate on the project.
The record's opening track "Survival" references two of Drake's prior feuds, with Meek Mill and Diddy. Drake raps,
I've had real Philly niggas try to write my endin'
Takin' shots with the gold and talk about shots that we sendin'
I've had scuffles with bad boys that wasn't pretendin'
The lyric references Drake's contentious 2015 beef with Meek, which most observers agree Drake won with the back-to-back disses of "Charged Up" and, well, "Back to Back." It also nods to Drake's 2014 brawl with Diddy at Miami's Club Liv. The Bad Boy mogul was reportedly upset because he felt Drake "stole" the beat for "0 To 100/The Catch Up."
The lyric shouldn't be interpreted as a re-opening of past animosities—Drake and Diddy have been on good terms for years now, and just last month Meek said it was "possible" that he'd work with Drizzy in the future. Instead, the song appears to be Drake looking back on the trials that made him who he is.
