Lately, rapper 50 Cent is known more for his acting, producing, and hilarious but sometimes ling-crossing Instagram commentary than music, but it looks like he might be back in the studio sooner than we think. Despite leaving Instagram for Twitter last month, he's back on the platform and in rare form. Recently, he took to Instagram to share a screenshot of the Urban Dictionary entry for his favorite phrase as of late, "get the strap."
"A boss phrase meaning someone has ticked you off so you're going to escalate the situation," the definition reads. He seemed pretty pleased with this explanation and even hinted that it made him want to release music again. "Hip-hop culture we run the world," he said in the post's caption. "This made me want to write again. New music on the way."
Granted, the phrase has gotten 50 Cent into a bit of trouble in the past, with NYPD launching an investigation after he added it to the caption as he shared a story about Deputy Inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez and allegations he was extorting a Brooklyn nightclub owner. Beyond that, his Instagram is littered with it, certainly not to be taken too seriously, on posts about him enjoying the Pusha and Drake beef to beef of his own with Floyd Mayweather.
Any new music from Fif would be the first since 2015's The Kanan Tape, and his most recent musical endeavor was taking the stage for a reunion of sorts with Eminem and Dr. Dre at this year's Coachella festival. He has been spending a considerable amount of time focused on both his on-screen and executive producer roles on the Starz series Power, which has been renewed for a sixth season, so hopefully he can find time for it all. Considering Ja Rule recently stuck his neck out to proclaim his 2003 song "Loose Change," which was directed at 50, as hip-hop's most disrespectful diss record, we're surprised a comeback hasn't arrived sooner.
