Gunna's new album, a Gift & a Curse, released on June 16, and its first-week sales projections have the Atlanta rapper possibly snagging another top 5 debut.
According to HITS Daily Double, Gunna sold 83,000 copies of his latest album, which is higher than the initial 78,000 units predicted last week. The first-week number for a Gift & a Curse is the third biggest opening for a rap album this year, but it's also the lowest for a major release from Gunna. His 2019 effort, Drip Or Drown 2, previously held that position after selling 90,000 copies the first week.
While a Gift & a Curse slots him at No. 3, Morgan Wallen's One Thing at a Time reaches No. 1 again with 110,000 units. Wallen has been holding that spot for 14 weeks.
Gunna's previous album, DS4Ever, sold 150,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. There are several reasons why Gunna's latest project failed to move over 100,000 copies, with one of them being the lack of promotion.
The 30-year-old hasn't been active on social media since he was arrested and later released in connection to the YSL RICO case. The album was also unleashed days after Gunna announced it along with the release of the lead single, "Bread & Butter."
A Gift & a Curse notably marks Gunna's first to be released since he entered an Alford plea deal in the YSL RICO case last December. Young Thug, meanwhile, remains behind bars after being denied bond several times.
The album came equipped with 15 tracks and no features, with Gunna addressing several topics, including his relationship with Young Thug, snitching allegations, family, addiction, and more. Check it out below.
