Akon has brought back the infamous fake watch story with French Montana, and this time, the singer revealed it happened in one of the biggest bargain shopping areas in the country: Canal Street in New York City.

On a segment from an upcoming episode of Drink Champs, the "Locked Up" singer was asked if he would be giving French an authentic watch so that he could stop telling the story, and Akon wasted no time saying the Bronx rapper wasn't the only person who got played that day.

"Listen, me and French got got that day," Akon said. "But I'm the one that lost money. I bought two of them watches, one for me and one for him."

He continued, "N***a, I got got too. Cause he came to me and said, 'That's a nice watch,' I said, 'N***a, I got one for you too.' Because at the time...I didn't know what a Hublot was. I just knew that I liked that. That was just a nice watch."

Akon said the whole situation went down because he was at a jewelry store on Canal Street in NYC and asked how much the Hublot watches cost. He was told they were selling for $15,000 to $20,000 on the market. However, a man close by heard the conversation and told the singer he could sell him the watch for $5,000. Akon took the deal and purchased two watches, one of which went to French Montana.

The Senegalese-born artist spoke about the incident during a visit to Real 92.3's Cruz Show in 2022. According to Akon, French went to his jeweler to get the watch cleaned but found out it was a fake and reported it to his buddy, letting him know what happened.

"He was like, 'What do you mean fake? I was like, 'What do you mean fake? The shit tick, don't it? The shit work, right?'" Akon said. "Not only was I upset because I paid, like, five grand for each watch… In my mind that was expensive for a watch. But obviously, for a Hublot, that was no money. That was a huge discount… So I'm like, 'This ungrateful ass n***a."

French shared a clip of the interview on his Instagram and showed he's all good with what happened but made sure that Akon still owes him a brand new watch.

"Forgive u my brudda," he wrote alongside laughing emojis. "U still owe me a real watch."
