Young Thug, French Montana, and several other rappers were named in texts read in court during the YNW Melly trial to prove the Florida native was affiliated with the Bloods gang, WPLG Local 10 News Miami reports.
Prosecutors accused Melly of being associated with the Bloods and explained this was the alleged motive for the murder of his two friends, Christopher "YNW Juvy" Thomas Jr. and Anthony "YNW Sakchaser" Williams.
Detective Danny Polo explained that gang members use rappers to bring in "money and fame" and, in return, give "support so they can get into certain venues." He then read out multiple text messages sent between GBK gang members Goon and Hurk to Youngsakchaser Howard that mentioned Young Thug, Boosie Badazz, French Montana, Juelz Santana, Quando Rondo, and more.
The prosecution obtained 123 text messages to help prove that Melly was a member of the Bloods. According to reporter Bryson Paul, Detective Polo alleged that Juelz is an active Bloods gang member based on a text thread with Goon, but couldn't confirm or deny if Montana was also a part of the gang.
Another text read, "You beloved was set is @youngthug pushing now," and also added that Quando Rondo "lame ass hated" on a previous message. Detective Polo also believed that YNW Melly was "being recruited by two different G-Shine Bloods gang members based on text message conversations of Gino and Hurk."
Meanwhile, a text GBK member Goon sent Melly hours after the murders of YNW Juvy and Sakchaser that read, "You straight? I just heard what happened last night," was also read in court.
YNW Melly was arrested and charged with two counts of premeditated murder in 2019 and faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. If convicted, he could get the death penalty.
