During a recent call-in appearance on the Joe Budden Podcast, Vince Staples was asked he believes Drake’s new dance album Honestly, Nevermind marks the end of rap music as we know it.

“You think Drake putting out a dance album gets us closer to the elimination of rap music as a whole?” Budden asked at the 1:57:07 mark above. Vince was quick to respond, and in turn referenced his 2017 album Big Fish Theory, which was layered with EDM and dance music elements.

“I did that in 2017, n***as was on me,” Vince said. “That Big Fish Theory, n***as was mad at that, ‘What’s up with this n***a?’”

The 28-year-old went on to say music is very “visual” to him and that certain artists correlate with certain images in his brain, such as Michael Jackson and the moonwalk.

“So when you think about where music is heading, everything is Instagram,” Vince said. “Everything looks the same, everything moves the same, everyone dresses the same, everyone talks the same. So the genre shit is gonna have to go out the window eventually. It’s too hard to separate culture because the internet is kinda pushing everything in the same little bubble.”

Drizzy’s record came just before Beyoncé dropped off a dance track of her own on Tuesday titled “Break My Soul.” The new single arrives less than a week after Bey revealed the title and release date for Renaissance, her follow-up to 2016’s Lemonade. The album is slated to drop on July 29.

As for the 6 God, his dance record may have garnered mixed reviews so far, but it’s expected to move big numbers this week nonetheless. According to early projections shared by Hits Daily DoubleHonestly, Nevermind will likely debut atop the Billboard 200 with an expected 210,000 to 230,000 album equivalent units in its first week.
