Yeat keeps his foot on the gas pedal.
After dropping multiple projects last year, the Portland-based rapper returned this week with his third studio album AftërLyfe. The effort arrives about a year after Yeat unleashed his sophomore LP 2 Alivë, and nearly six months after he came through with his Lyfë EP.
The 22-year-old artist teased AftërLyfe in his Complex cover story last year, saying he was approaching the album in a completely new way.
“I’m coming way different on the album,” Yeat said. “It’s a whole different sound fully. It’s just rap beats mixed with… It’s just a different style. I don’t know. It’s not regular rap beats. It’s a whole different new wave.”
He went on to note that he would handle most of the project by himself, as he wasn’t “really big on features.”
“I kind of like people just hearing me. I don’t really need other people on my music. Maybe a couple features, but I don’t like having 20 features on an album. That shit’s kind of weird,” he explained in the cover story, which—courtesy of Cian Moore’s compelling photography—ended up yielding the AftërLyfe album art.
AftërLyfe spans 22 tracks and includes four guests: YoungBoy Never Broke Again (“Shmunk”), Kranky Kranky (“Rave Party” and “Mean Feen”), Luh Geeky (“Now”), and Talking Ben App (“How It Go”).
