Pink Sweats stars in the latest installment of Sound Sessions, a weekly web-series presented by Grey Goose and the Recording Academy.

The Philly-born singer kicked things off by mixing an espresso martini cocktail, a drink that reminded him of his 2018 breakout single “Honesty.” Pink Sweats said the song, just like the drink, gave off a “luxe feel” and was always playing whenever he stopped in a coffee shop.

As he went on to create the drink, Pink Sweats began broke down the essential ingredients for “Honesty.”

“I’ll say you always start with a good melody; that’s probably the liqueur, that’s the special sauce,” he said. “You get a little pickup with the with the vocals. I feel like it elevates it, especially when you get to the high notes. I feel like you have to take the ear and the mind on a rollercoaster type of journey.”

He then spoke about his first time ever performing “Honesty” and how it showcased his vulnerability.

“I feel like it was just stripping away my emotional guards, as far as me just not wanting to say the truth,” he explained, “You know what, I’m afraid to fall in love. I feel like so many people feel that, right? … I feel like I had to release those boundaries.”

Pink Sweats continued by delivering an intimate performance of the track as well as “Nothing Feels Better,” which appeared on his 2022 album Pink Moon.

The 2023 Sound Sessions series kicked off this week with a performance by Muni Long. Next week’s installment will feature Grammy winner Ella Mai.
