YouTube will soon reinstate two popular livestreams by Lofi Girl, whichĀ wereĀ removed over what was later determined to be ā€œabusiveā€ takedown requests.Ā

On Sunday, Lofi Girl shared a noticeĀ from YouTube regarding the removal of theĀ ā€œlofi hip hop radio ā€” beats to relax/study toā€Ā andĀ ā€œlofi hip hop radio ā€” beats to sleep/chill toā€ streams due to alleged copyright violations.Ā

Lofi Girl stood by its assertion of ā€œfalse copyright strikes,ā€ telling TechCrunch that all musicĀ on the channel is released through its record label,Ā Lofi Records. The following day, YouTube issued an apology to Lofi Girl via Twitter, and estimated that the two livestreams should be restored within 24 to 48 hours.

confirmed the takedown requests were abusive & terminated the claimants account šŸ˜” we've resolved the strikes + reinstated your vids ā€“ it can sometimes take 24-48 hours for everything to be back to normal! so sorry this happened & thx for your patience as we sorted it out ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

YouTubeā€™s community guidelines dictateĀ the firstĀ copyright strike serves asĀ a warning and if the account were to receive three strikes, it would lead to termination. Lofi Girlā€™s former account ChilledCow was taken down in Feb. 2020 for violating the terms of service, a decision that YouTube ultimately acknowledged was aĀ mistake on its part.Ā
