Ike Turner Jr., son of Tina Turner and Ike Turner, was arrested in Texas last month and charged with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence after officers allegedly noticed him attempting to ingest the narcotics following a traffic stop.
According to People, authorities pulled over Turner Jr., 64, shortly after midnight on May 6 after noticing his car had an equipment violation. Officers eventually found 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and 0.7 grams of methamphetamine inside his vehicle, a discovery that was tipped off by the sight of him trying to consume the drugs.
"He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him," Alvin Police Captain Q.T. Arendell said.
Turner Jr. was sentenced to 18 days in jail.
His arrest occurred less than three weeks before the passing of Tina Turner. The iconic singer had been dealing with intestinal cancer for years. She was 83 years old.
According to a 2018 Daily Mail article, Tina adopted Turner Jr. and Michael, both of whom came from Ike's first marriage, after the two tied the knot in 1962. Turner Jr. claims the singer distanced herself from Ike and her two adopted kids ever since relocating to Switzerland.
Turner Jr. said at the time that he had not spoken to Tina since "probably around 2000."
He received a Grammy in 2007 for Best Traditional Blues Album, serving as a producer on his father's final studio album Risin' With the Blues. Ike died that same year from a cocaine overdose.
Turner Jr. initially worked as a sound engineer for Tina, but Ike didn't support the gig following their separation and allegedly expressed his disapproval by pistol-whipping his son.
Turner Jr. said he forgave his father prior to his death.
